"I’ve have been a youth worker for 13 years and in early 2011 I was introduced to Sara Taylor (Senior Impact Team Leader) who sold me Energize and shortly after we became friends. She was so inspiring and shared passionately about Urban Saints and what they do. From that moment, I wanted to join the organisation because the mission is making young disciples for Jesus through meeting young people where they are at and transforming their lives with the Gospel by loving them.
"In 2015/16 I asked Sara about when an opportunity might come along for me to join Urban Saints and I worked with her and others to get myself prepared. I wanted this so much that, in the summer of 2017, I made a bold step and told the church where I worked for nine years that I was now looking to move on and when Urban Saints advertised for a role in this area that I would be applying.
"In January 2019, I went over to Sara’s house and told her I would like a job please because I felt I was ready, and it was time to start a new adventure with God. During the conversation she had a phone call, so I left the room, and when I returned she told me she had just heard there was an opportunity for a part-time role coming up quite soon with Urban Saints in the Central Region. I applied for the job, had an interview in February and was offered the job to start at the beginning of March.
"Six months on and I ask myself, ‘Is this what I expected?’ The answer would be no - it is so much better than I could have ever imagined!
Every day I wake up and thank the Lord for this opportunity, the fantastic Impact Team Leaders and the excellent Support Centre in Luton.
"My job is to set up new Groups in the Central Region and to help the church to engage with young people in their local community. I network and pray with many churches, leaders and other organisations, including schools. I meet many young people and share the Gospel of Jesus with them. I work alongside some great churches to help them bring young people closer to Jesus. I share with churches and other organisations the fantastic Energize materials we have to help them to connect and enable young people to explore faith. I love my job!"
